Our history

Department of Epidemiology as an independent department was formed in 1935 at the Tashkent Medical Institute. Until 1935, the rate of Epidemiology studied as part of other departments. Course epidemiology were studied at the Department of Microbiology in 1930, at the Department of Infectious Diseases in 1931


Heads of deparment:

Georgevsky Alexei Vasilievich –The first head of the Department of Epidemiology – MD, Professor. Headed the department from 1935 to 1952. The main scientific direction – the study of the epidemiology of intestinal diseases in Uzbekistan. The degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences has been awarded to him on set of works “Typhoid fever in Uzbekistan” in 1935. A.V.Georgievsky – author of more than 25 scientific publications on the epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases in Uzbekistan. He studied and described for the first time “The results of epidemiological work in Uzbekistan for 25 years.”

Matsyna Lidia Ivanovna (1900-1979) –PhD, assistant professor. 1952-1954 years headed the chair. Author of more than 40 scientific publications on regional pathologies of Uzbekistan. She has studied and described for the first time “Infection corpses dysentery bacteria”

Soshnikova Margarita Nikolaevna (1908 – 2000) –Doctor of Medicine (1953), Professor (1954). PhD thesis defended in 1939, a doctorate – in 1953. She was head of the department in 1954- 1972.  Author of over 120 scientific publications on the most important infectious diseases in Uzbekistan and dealing with them.

Usmanov Marat Kurbanovich (born in 1935). Doctor of Medicine (1970), Professor (1972), from 1972 – Head of the Department of Epidemiology (after 1991-2005  – Second Tashkent State Medical Institute). Author of over 180 scientific publications devoted to the comprehensive study of boundary singularities of intestinal infections, two monographs and educational literature on epidemiology. Teached 1 doctors and 11 PhDs.

Mirtazaev Omon Mirtazaevich (born in 1948). Doctor of Medicine (1993), Professor (1997). 1993-2005 years cer extending the Department of Epidemiology of the Second Tashkent State Medical Institute. 1995-2000, was the chief epidemiologist MoH, and 2000-2005, director of the Institute “Health”. 2005-2009, dean of the medical-prophylactic faculty of Tashkent Medical Academy 2005-2010, supervisor of the Department of Epidemiology TMA. Author of over 200 scientific publications, three monographs, and he prepared three educational literature on epidemiology.

Umirov Safar Ergashevich (born in 1955). In1980 he graduated from the sanitation department of the Tashkent State Medical  From 1980 to 1995 worked as a physician epidemiologist CSSES Dehkanabad region Kashkadarya region. In 1995 he was transferred to a senior lecturer in the Department of Epidemiology Second Tashkent State Medical Institute. From 2001 he worked as an assistant professor of the department. From 2010 to 2013 worked as head of the Department of  Epidemiology TMA. Published 165 scientific publications. Prepared 21 methodical, teaching guidelines, manuals, circulars, which are embedded in the activities of health facilities of the republic and in the learning process.

Matnazarova Gulbahor Sultanovna(Born in 1962).Associate Professor, Department of Epidemiology Tashkent Medical Academy – MD. Winner of scientific publications, conducted by the Center of Science and Technology Cabinet of  Ministers (Order number 275 from 31.03.2005 years). 2000- 2005 years worked as Deputy Director for Science and International Relations Urgench branch of the First Tashkent State Medical Institute and 2005- 2007  years Urgench branch of Tashkent Medical Academy. 2007- 2012 she worked at the Research Institute of Virology MoH Head of the Laboratory of feral herd of dangerous viral infection. Since 2012 lecturer in the Department of Epidemiology TMA s and April 2013 with the head of the Department of Epidemiology. He has published over 130 scientific papers and educational development, including 1 monograph, 2 patents, 2 curricula.
