We are pleased to welcome you to the official page of the Department of Epidemiology. This platform was created to provide complete and up-to-date information about the history, scientific school, educational activities, and current achievements of our department.
The Department of Epidemiology has a rich and well-established history. From 1920 to 1935, epidemiology was taught as a course within the Departments of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. Since 1935, it has functioned as an independent department within the Tashkent State Medical Institute. Over the years, the department has been led by many distinguished scholars, including Professor A.V. Georgievsky, Associate Professor L.I. Matsina, Professor M.N. Soshnikova, Professor M.K. Usmonov, Professor O.M. Mirtazaev, and Professor G.S. Matnazarova, who established a strong scientific school.
Currently, the department employs 12 staff members, including 2 professors, 3 associate professors, 4 senior lecturers, 2 assistants, and 1 doctoral researcher. The department provides students with modern knowledge and practical skills. Its scientific potential exceeds 50%.
The department delivers education for students of medical prevention, general medicine, medical pedagogy, dentistry, and international faculties. Since 2010, a Master’s program in Epidemiology has been offered, and since 2014, a Clinical Residency program has been operating. The department’s priority is to develop epidemiological thinking in students, encourage scientific research, and teach prevention-based approaches.
Lectures and practical classes are conducted using modern technologies and interactive methods. Case studies, brainstorming, SWOT analysis, conference methods, and practice-oriented independent research are integral parts of the educational process. Students’ independent work, reading scientific literature in English, and development of clinical thinking are considered important criteria.
The department is located on the 4th floor of a 10-story building and is equipped with modern lecture halls, practical training rooms, and an educational and scientific museum.
